All business/ERP systems today can integrate other solutions with their system, and there’s no difference in Business Central. Some functionality is also the same regardless of the customer, and instead of spending money on developing something that already exists, Microsoft introduced apps in Business Central. We’ll continue discussing apps in the next paragraph.
Back in the day, all solutions were customer-specific, and it worked well as long as customers had their solution on-premises, meaning locally installed on a server within the office.
When a new version of the system was released, all customer customisations needed to be reviewed to ensure that the code would work in the new update. This was a costly task for customers with many customisations. When Business Central transitioned to the cloud, enabling automatic updates, the need for a more future-proof solution increased.
So what did Microsoft do? Well, they introduced apps containing specific functionality that suits multiple customer solutions. Let’s take an example: Almost every company wants to approve invoices. Instead of developing this functionality for each company individually, partners created an application for this purpose. When it’s time for a new version, the app is updated for all companies with it installed. Suddenly, parts of the solution can be updated automatically, and you always have the latest technology without it costing you as a customer a lot of money.
To develop apps for Business Central, they must be verified by Microsoft. NAB’s sister company, Smartapps, develops apps, but NAB also utilises apps from other providers. We are always here to support you in selecting the right apps, as finding the most suitable ones can sometimes be challenging.
All products in Dynamics 365 require a license from Microsoft, billed monthly. Licenses are based on the number of users and their roles in the system. There are 3 different levels: Essentials, Premium, and Team Member. Everyone who needs access to the system requires a license. Note that if your solution requires premium licenses, everyone who will work in the system needs a premium license. You cannot mix Essentials and Premium licenses.
