Johan’s Thoughts on Charleston – Part 2
February 26th, 2025
Our colleague Johan is currently in the U.S., more specifically in Charleston, where we have our base for doing business in America, and here are his thoughts on it:
The people here are incredibly friendly and eager to share their stories about why they chose Charleston. One particularly fascinating conversation was with a German father who relocated here in 2009 with his wife. They now have three children, the oldest being ten years old. Initially, they settled on Daniel Island but eventually moved to Mount Pleasant for various reasons.
The climate in Charleston is fantastic! Visiting now, at the end of February, is probably the coolest period, yet the sun still shines almost every day. The city offers numerous beautiful beaches. One interesting caution: watch out for alligators! With numerous waterways and ponds throughout the neighborhoods, sightings are common. In fact, I managed to capture a photo of one in a central park. While extremely dangerous in water, they’re less of a threat on land—just keep your distance and remember they’re surprisingly fast for the first 20 meters. After that, your fitness determines the outcome!
The business environment in the U.S. is undeniably competitive. If you’re not a good fit, businesses will quickly move on. This competitive landscape suits us perfectly, though it will certainly challenge us. We’ve already gained valuable experience and understand that clients expect us to handle everything. Our integrated model—encouraging clients to actively participate and own their solutions—may initially be challenging. However, I’m confident this approach will ultimately drive our success. Empowering our clients to take ownership of their systems means better long-term outcomes and greater scalability for us.
In short, establishing ourselves in Charleston feels absolutely right. If things continue progressing at this pace, exciting opportunities await us here in North America!
